U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged China to stop Iran from closing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes for crude oil.

This comes after Iran’s state TV said the Iranian parliament has approved a plan to close the Strait, though the final decision rests with the Supreme National Security Council.

Around 20% of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Any attempt to close it could cause global oil prices to skyrocket.Oil prices have already increased after the U.S. attacked Iranian nuclear sites.

Another Good News: There is a massive iron mine in Nawalparasi East with an estimated reserve of around 100 million tons. Dhaubadi Iron Company Limited (DICL), a government-owned enterprise established in 2076 B.S., is working to develop and operate the mine.

This vast deposit is expected to meet Nepal’s iron demand for up to 100 years, potentially saving billions in import costs and boosting export revenue.

The company has informed the government about the ongoing drilling and feasibility study. It has also stated that iron and steel production could begin by 2085 B.S. through regular procedures.

Nepal’s Horaa Esports has qualified for the prestigious PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) 2025. The team secured their spot by finishing second in the PUBG Mobile Super League – Central & South Asia (PMSL CSA) Spring 2025. They also won $21,350 (NPR 29.6 lakh).

The tournament is set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 25 to August 3, as part of the Esports World Cup. It has a prize pool of $3 million (NPR 41.6 crore).

The Strait, located between Iran and Oman, handles about 20% of the world’s daily oil consumption (roughly 20 million barrels per day) and a third of global liquefied natural gas shipments. However, the final decision rests with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Closing the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt global energy markets, likely causing oil prices to rise significantly. This would impact major economies, particularly in Asia (e.g., China, India, Japan), which rely heavily on Gulf oil.

According to reports, India, for instance, imports around 1.5 million barrels daily through the Strait, and a closure could raise shipping costs significantly. The threat alone has rattled markets, with Brent crude already rising from $69 to $74 per barrel after recent tensions.
