Nepal Television’s official YouTube channel, which had over 800K subscribers has reportedly been deleted by YouTube due to repeated copyright violations.

The channel, operated under Nepal’s state-owned broadcaster, was also used by regional stations. The deletion reportedly occurred after a staff member from the Kohalpur station uploaded videos from Al Jazeera, a major Qatar-based news network.

Officials said the videos were mistakenly uploaded and tried to contact Al Jazeera through Nepal’s embassy in Qatar, but they received no response. YouTube also has not responded.

Although the government allocates a budget for purchasing video content legally, Nepal Television used foreign news footage without proper licensing, leading to the loss of the entire channel and all its videos. A new channel was created in March under the same name.

Six political parties, including Maoist Centre and CPN (Unified Socialist), have defended Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leader Ashok Yadav, who recently said that “Madhesh will one day separate from Nepal.”

In a joint statement, the parties said police treated Yadav unfairly. They accused SP Yogendra Kumar Khadka of speaking to Yadav in a disrespectful way when Yadav called him to ask about police activity at the Infrastructure Development Office.

Flash floods caused by heavy rain have swept away more than 100 vehicles from the Rasuwagadhi customs yard and the under-construction Timure dry port along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa.

According to officials, the exact number of vehicles and the extent of the damage will be known only after a full assessment, but initial estimates suggest over 100 vehicles have been swept away.

The incident has raised concerns over infrastructure vulnerability and the need for better preparedness in border trade regions.

The government of Nepal proposed a plan to make divorce easier by changing the Civil Code. Currently, if a couple files for divorce together, they must wait one year before the court can approve it. The new plan would remove this one-year wait.

If both husband and wife agree to divorce, they could apply jointly and get the decision faster. The government says forcing people to stay married for a year, even after their relationship is over, causes mental stress and can lead to more abuse or violence.

Last year, divorce was the most common court case in Nepal, with over 40,000 cases filed in district courts alone.
